The Iliofemoral ligament is the strongest of the 3 ligaments of the hip joint².

Function

• When taut, the Iliofemoral lig. prevents the pelvis from posteriorly tilting when in upright standing².
• The iliofemoral ligament limits adduction when the hip is in extension².
• The Iliofemoral lig. also stabilizes the pelvis on the stance side during gait²
